FR: Mortgage lending recently saw the best month since 2008 – have you seen a noticeable improvement in the market recently?

Yes, there has been a significant upturn in the last three months.

FR: What have been some of your company's key milestones over the past couple of years?

We kept lending right through the downturn, and last year our gross lending was the second highest in the Society’s history.

FR: Mortgage lending by mutuals has been on the rise recently, with them taking a larger market share – why do you think this is?

Mutuals have generally weathered the economic downturn well. This puts them in a strong position to offer competitive products. As well as this, I think mutuals have an excellent empathy with customers and intermediaries.

FR: How important is the relationship between Harpenden BS and intermediaries?

Extremely important.

FR: What sets you apart from your competitors at a time when all eyes are on falling mortgage rates and an increase in the number of products available?

Mortgage brokers can talk to our underwriters, who have a thorough understanding of complex cases and can take a common sense approach. We are able to provide a quick and efficient service and our team take a great pride in what they do.
