Charles Smailes, a director at Feather Smailes and Scales and former president of the NAEA, has worked in the North Yorkshire region for more than 40 years. He believes that local buyers and sellers looking to the regional market should remain confident in the face of national trends.

Mr Smailes explained:

“The national outlook is a little uncertain and the most recent report for the UK from the NAEA showed that house prices remained relatively static over the summer.

“But I am more than confident at the robustness of the local market in North Yorkshire. Despite economic uncertainty, I believe that there are enough unique attractions to the area to ensure that buyers and sellers should remain optimistic.”

Mr Smailes also urges house buyers and sellers to use a trusted and qualified local estate agent when conducting a sale.

He said:

“Buyers who are new to the area should seek out an NAEA member, who have an excellent knowledge of York and the surrounding region. Our members are trained to the highest possible standards in customer service and the legal requirements when purchasing or selling a property.

“NAEA members can guide consumers through what is a complicated and often fraught process. If you are looking for properties in the area, then check out the portal. York itself benefits from being a university town, and that always produces an increase in demand for accommodation at the beginning of the academic year.

“The area also has fantastic schools, a unique architectural presence, and a strong sense of history, all of which provides a powerful draw to the area.”
