Jayne-Anne was given a Dames Commander of the Order of the British Empire, the second highest ranking, in this week's New Year's Honours List.

Jayne-Anne was appointed by the government as the official Women in Finance Champion to promote the benefits of a diverse workforce across the UK financial services sector.

She helped create the Women in Finance Charter following her 2015 review which found that  women made up only 14% of executive committees in the financial services sector.

This year 544 women were recognised in the Honours List, representing 47% of the total.

Industry and the economy make up 10% of the list. Nicola Yates, senior vice president of GlaxoSmithKline, was awarded an OBE for services to women in business and workplace equality.

Tom Blomfield, founder and CEO of Monzo, was also named in the Honours List for services to improving competition and financial inclusion in the banking sector.

Amali De Alwis, CEO of Code First Girls, which works with companies to increase the numbers of women in tech, was given an MBE.

Jayne-Anne Gadhia tweeted: "Feeling humble to be part of #NewYearsHonours. Thank you to everyone at Virgin Money, the 300 firms who have signed the Women in Finance Charter and all my friends and family."
