"Being part of this group can help ensure we, along with the other members, help drive best behaviours across the board; from intermediaries to insurers"

The trade body helps families find the protection they need by encouraging insurers and intermediaries to deliver better consumer outcomes. The group, whose members solely consist of protection advice firms, began in 2016 and has over 20 member firms including Assured Futures, Drewberry, Future Proof, LifeSearch, London & Country and Sesame Bankhall Group.

Alan Knowles has also announced he will be stepping down after three years as chair to continue focusing on his adviser business, Cura Financial Services. Neil McCarthy, who recently retired from LifeQuote after 35 years in the protection industry, has taken over as acting chair until the end of the year.

Paul Reed, director of Vita, said: “I’m delighted to confirm that Vita is joining the Protection Distributors Group. Our team are passionate about effecting change positively, and ensuring we help build trust within the insurance industry. Being part of this group can help ensure we, along with the other members, help drive best behaviours across the board; from intermediaries to insurers and deliver better consumer outcomes.”

Neil McCarthy commented: “I’m really pleased to continue working with the PDG board following my involvement over the past few years. There are plenty of initiatives and ideas that the board have identified to improve consumer outcomes, and I’m looking forward to working with experienced practitioners and business owners to create positive changes.”

Alan Knowles added: “I’ve been honoured to chair the PDG over the last few years and I’m proud of the hugely positive impact the group has had on the market. I’m not going anywhere and will continue to be part of the board, but I am looking forward to having more time to focus on Cura and my family.”
