We spoke to Kevin about the Source's awards campaign, competitiveness within the industry, and the importance of networking.

FR: What impact has winning a Financial Reporter award had on your business?

Clearly, winning an award from a prestigious publication like Financial Reporter is always appreciated by the team at Source, as it provides independent acknowledgement of the hard work they put in each and every day. In terms of specific impact, it made a fairly big dent in one of the pedestals in the gents loo when it fell off its shelf.

FR: What advice would you give to this year's potential winners?

You want to make as much noise about it as possible, but I’d recommend hiring a big truck with posters on the side, because you’re fully in control of the content then.

Last year, we hired a plane to skywrite to announce our victory, but lots of people contacted us to say that we’d made a spelling mistake because they didn’t know what ‘frawards’ were, and they thought we were announcing we’d won Halfords.

FR: Why is it so important to recognise good practice within the industry?

A competitive marketplace is ultimately good for customers, and companies will definitely compete to win awards. This year, we’re challenging one of our competitors to a sumo wrestling contest to win an award that I picked up for £5 on eBay and they’re taking it surprisingly seriously…

FR: Why should you win an award again this year?

The team at Source have worked incredibly hard to develop our offering and we hope that will be reflected in the votes that our brokers give us. I’d also like to reward Kris, who did a great job fixing that pedestal, although he was in the shower for about four days afterwards.

FR: Any advice for Winners’ Party attendees?

It’s a great opportunity to network with other people from across the industry and I’d encourage attendees to throw themselves into it wholeheartedly. It’s also a great opportunity to build up your LinkedIn connections so that you can show off your ‘500+’ status. Just don’t try to get off with the boss!
