Mortgage lenders are offering an increasing array of products in an attempt to gain market share, the buy-to-let market appears to be seeing the beginnings of a revival and the Government has pledged to do more to help get Britain building again to name but a few.

So how does Joe Public navigate his way through it all, how does he know the decisions he is taking are the right ones?

Brokers enjoy a privileged position because they have access to the customer in their own home. How many other professional advisors can you think of that are privy to such a captive market?

The legal sector is a complex place and most people don’t have the time, or the inclination, to trawl through all the information out there.

Unless you’re fortunate enough to have good connections, or a family solicitor, it’s difficult to get access to comprehensive legal advice.

Indeed, most people have nowhere to go and although they may have an idea of where to start looking, all too often solicitors are viewed with suspicion, so an adviser is incredibly useful.

They can cut through the red tape and offer guidance on who can lead people through the legal complexities of buying or remortgaging.

Of course it’s not a one way street. A good solicitor will demystify the process, which helps the broker and, perhaps more importantly, their customers.

We are living in changing times, but these are also very exciting times and this is a great opportunity for brokers to add value by working with solicitors to provide a more comprehensive service for clients.
