We spoke to Charles Haresnape, Managing Director of Mortgages & Commercial Lending at Aldermore, about this year's awards and the reputation of the financial services industry.

FR: What impact has winning a Financial Reporter award had on your business?

Being recognised for our hard work over the year is a real boost to Aldermore staff, particularly as the awards are industry-led rather than decided by a panel. The award has been great in raising Aldermore’s profile as a specialist lender, and is an effective way of demonstrating our commitment and expertise to brokers and customers.

FR: What advice would you give to this year's potential winners?

If you’re lucky enough to win an award, make sure your customers know about it as well. Achievement in the industry should be broadcast to improve the reputation of financial services among the general public.

FR: Why is it so important to recognise good practice within the industry?

Our industry is full of talented and hardworking people who care immensely about their jobs. Awards such as these reward organisations and people who innovate and support their customers, these are good for the industry as well as the wider economy.

FR: Why should you win an award again this year?

Aldermore continues to grow strongly, and 2014 was an outstanding year. Many people do not fit into traditional lending categories and we deal with customers on a case-by-case basis, which is a key component in our success. While we offer automated approvals, we do not operate automated decline system, instead taking a more tailored and common sense approach.

We are proud of the personal service we offer and have a transparent approach to customer feedback, with customers able to leave comments about our products and services on our website. We take this feedback on board and use it to improve our offering.

FR: Any advice for Winners’ Party attendees?

Having a good time and being gracious to the other nominees can’t hurt! Practise your winner’s face (and your loser’s one, just in case).
