It is at the heart of the mortgage market review currently being pursued by the Financial Services Authority as it works its way towards implementing regulatory reform. Meanwhile, later this spring, responsible lending and borrowing will be the subject of a long-awaited draft directive from the European Commission.

In 2011, therefore, lenders will need to keep abreast of the latest thinking on responsible lending as it goes through a process of transition, driven by legislative and regulatory bodies. Changes are coming, at all levels.

So, what effects will proposed reforms have on the day-to-day activities of lenders and their relationships with customers? What is direction of travel, and how is the uncertainty caused by the process of transition affecting lenders? And where will lenders need to be – and by when – on this journey towards regulatory reform?

These and other questions will be addressed at our forthcoming third annual responsible mortgage lending conference on 6 April, focusing on changes in this area  and their implications for lenders and other market participants.

The conference will look at what is emerging from the MMR and what we might expect in the European directive. It will also hear the views of a range of industry and consumer experts, and provide a platform for discussion of the key issues, as firms work through a process of significant change.

Speakers already confirmed include Santander chief credit officer Iain Laing, Citizens Advice social policy officer Peter Tutton, and our own head of policy, Jackie Bennett.

We are now taking bookings for the conference, which will be held at a London venue to be confirmed.
