In taking up his appointment, the new chairman endorsed the work of lenders in keeping down the number of cases of possession in Scotland.

Speaking at the CML Scotland annual lunch in Edinburgh earlier this month, he said:

"Lower repossessions are a testament to the actions of lenders in Scotland to give all assistance they can to borrowers in financial distress."

In his speech, Jim Dunn also said:

"The last year has been a particularly busy one. Not only have there been many UK-wide issues, but there have been a number of very specific issues concerning the housing and mortgage market in Scotland, including the Homeowner and Debtor Protection (Scotland) Act 2010 and the UK supreme court decision in the case of The Royal Bank of Scotland plc v Wilson.

"CML Scotland represents the interests of over 20 members lending in Scotland and this year will continue to advise on issues affecting Scotland, particularly those arising from our separate legal system and the activities of the Scottish government."

Jim Dunn joined Scottish Building Society in January 1998 and has been employed in the financial services industry for more than 30 years. He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland (FCIBS) and has acted as an examiner for the institute’s mortgage advice & practice certificate.
