Over this period, 90,730 new homes were registered against 72,740 over the same eight months last year.

The 9,769 registrations that were recorded in August 2013 were a modest increase on August 2012’s 9,553. But during the three months of June to August, figures climbed 15% to 33,593 against the same quarter last year (29,272).

Private housing registrations over this rolling quarter increased 14% to 24,692 year-on-year. Public registrations rose almost 16% to 8,901.

NHBC said that the increase in registrations seen during this year was evidence of various government schemes, including Help to Buy, working well to boost new homes delivery.

Richard Tamayo, NHBC’s commercial director, said:

“Our latest statistics continue the pattern we have seen over the course of the year, with new home registration figures showing a noticeable improvement on recent years.

These figures are the highest for this period (January – August) since 2007 which is obviously encouraging news, but illustrates the significant difference in the number of new homes being built six years ago and now.”
