The Legal Services Board published their completed research and their main finding is that there is no evidence that referral fees are causing consumer detriment in the conveyancing market.
When referral fees are paid the consumer usually pays less overall for their conveyancing. There also isn’t evidence to suggest that the quality of conveyancing services is reduced because of referral fees.
However, the Solicitors Regulation Authority may step up its enforcement as regards solicitors who don’t require agents to make the required disclosures about referral fees to consumers.
