Fifty young mortgage brokers will gather at HSBC’s Canary Wharf headquarters this week to get a bank’s-eye view on the mortgage market.

The brokers were nominated by their firms from a selection of the 1,000 broker firms with access to HSBC UK’s mortgages.

The agenda for the second Emerging Talent event on Thursday 27th April includes:

• Insight from HSBC UK’s head of intermediary mortgages, Chris Pearson;
• Richard Beardshaw, head of sales, sharing his thoughts on how young brokers can ‘Be More Disney’ and deliver exceptional customer service;
• A look under the bonnet of how mortgage rates are set with Andrew Matson, the bank’s interim head of buying a home;
• An economic update with senior economist Liz Martins;
• Uncovering some of the detail around the future of retrofitting, with Michaela Wright, head of corporate sustainability; and
• Bianca Miller-Cole, business speaker and former Apprentice candidate, on turning dreams into reality and the importance of personal branding.

Chris Pearson, head of intermediary mortgages at HSBC UK, said: “The younger brokers who are entering the industry now, will be the ones to shape it and take it forward. Our Emerging Talent Event recognises the customer-focussed start they have made to their career, and will hopefully provide them with a real insight into different elements of the mortgage business that isn’t typically seen by brokers.

“When we held the inaugural event last year, one of the brokers told me it seemed like “Top Gun for brokers”. Like those fighter pilots, being a mortgage broker is an important job. Many people are relying on you to provide the help they need to turn their home-buying dreams into reality. While I am sure some of the brokers will reach dizzying heights in their career, enhancing their understanding of our role in the process will hopefully prove beneficial.

“We have been developing CPD-accredited learning sessions for brokers to help with their ongoing development. I am extremely proud that the Emerging Talent is CPD-accredited too and that we are able to help support the future of the broker network in a number of different ways, supporting the development of the skills and knowledge of the future of our broker network.”
