In this, our penultimate episode, we are focusing on schizophrenia. Often a very misunderstood condition, experiencing schizophrenia is not having multiple personalities and you might find that some people feel very uncomfortable using the term schizophrenia, as there is quite a lot of stigma surrounding the name.
It is estimated that approximately 1 in 100 people experience schizophrenia, and the likelihood that you’ll speak to a client that is living with schizophrenia is probably higher than you think. Having some background knowledge on this health condition and what insurers want to know, could prove very useful in the long run.
The condition can be linked to genetics, but it can also be the result of experiencing a traumatic event in a person’s life. Yes, schizophrenia is a long term health condition but it is possible in some cases to recover from it.
