UK Finance has announced that Charles Roe will be stepping down from his role as director of mortgages on Tuesday, 31st March 2026.
Charles has led the mortgages function since the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic and will now take on a portfolio of non-executive appointments.
Since joining UK Finance, Charles has led its response to several issues, including the building safety and cladding crisis; the implementation of Covid-19 mortgage payment holidays; developing the Homes for Ukraine scheme; and the mortgage sector’s significant response to cost-of-living challenges.
In the interim, Karina Hutchins, acting director of mortgages, will assume day-to-day responsibility for the team, supported by Ronnell Reffell, acting principal, and the mortgages team.
Charles said: "It has been a privilege to lead our mortgages work at a time of significant change for the market. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together, and I’m grateful to colleagues, members, associate members and partners for their support.
"I’m looking forward to taking on a number of non-executive roles, and I will remain a strong advocate for a well-functioning mortgage market that supports consumers and the wider economy."
