Curvestone AI, which builds oversight tools for regulated financial services, has deployed its AI compliance platform across the advice and quality-control process at Specialist Mortgage Group, the Cardiff-based group behind Y3S Loans, Y3S Bridging and Commercial and Chase Blue Loans.
The platform connects to Y3S’s existing CRM through an API. It reads call transcripts, emails, WhatsApp and text messages, credit files and applicant data, then checks each file against the group’s own policies as the case progresses.
Four checks are live. Shopping list validation confirms whether each document the lender requires is on file, while a vulnerability assessment and a Land Registry report review cover two more areas. The fourth, an advice suitability assessment, passes or fails each case against more than 100 validation points.
Each report takes about five minutes and cites the evidence behind every finding. The adviser stays in control and makes the final decision. The platform records every assessment and decision for audit, and feeds them into the group’s monthly management information (MI) and annual Consumer Duty report.
Y3S has run quality-control checks on 100% of its cases for almost a decade. Curvestone’s AI compliance checks let the group keep that level of oversight as it grows, without scaling headcount at the same rate. The deployment follows the FCA’s completion of its distribution review of the second charge market, which focused sharply on suitability rather than eligibility.
How AI compliance surfaced a vulnerability
In one vulnerability assessment completed within days of deployment, a customer briefly mentioned a recent bereavement during an early call but did not raise it again. Curvestone ran its vulnerability assessment two weeks later, reviewed all conversations and brought that context together for the adviser, who assessed whether the customer needed additional support or more time to consider their options.
Dawid Kotur, founder and chief executive at Curvestone AI (pictured), said: “Y3S already checks every case, which puts them ahead of much of the market. Together we’ve made that oversight consistent, evidenced and fast, built on their own policies and running inside the system their team already uses. We look forward to extending the work as the group scales.”
Barney Drake, chief executive at Specialist Mortgage Group, added: “Before Curvestone, vulnerability assessment was done at adviser level, and ensuring consistency across 40 to 50 advisers was far more challenging. Now it’s driven by our policy, and it takes minutes to present all evidence to the adviser, who then makes the final call.
“The investment is comparable to having a person do the work, but the outcome is consistent in every case. AI is there to assist, not to replace, and it puts me in a position to consider significant scale without depending on recruitment.”
