Ellie began her career in 2020 as a degree apprentice with Barclays, balancing full-time work in the specialist customer care mortgage team with studying Data Science at Keele University. Joining during the pandemic tested her resilience - starting a new role remotely and later becoming a key worker taught her the value of adaptability, communication, and digital collaboration. Graduating with a First-Class MSc in Data Science, Ellie has since advanced to the Mortgage Product and Proposition team, where she plays a central role in shaping policy, improving accessibility, and delivering market-leading customer experiences.
"Moving to a new city with an empty office with little to no contact with peers was a challenge but it taught me the importance of resilience"
Ellie’s career has been defined by innovation and measurable impact. She led a regional minimum equity policy change, reducing barriers for customers and enabling greater market access. She’s also co-led the transformation of Barclays’ mortgage Terms & Conditions, reducing the reading age from 29 to 9 years - earning Fairer Finance accreditation and improving accessibility for thousands of customers.
Her work on affordability modelling, shared ownership propositions, and green home incentives has shaped Barclays’ approach to responsible lending. She’s automated critical monitoring processes, streamlined decision-making frameworks, and introduced tools to forecast the commercial impact of product changes.
Beyond her technical expertise, Ellie is a committed mentor and advocate for professional development, having supported apprentices, advisers, and early-career colleagues. She’s also a driving force in Barclays’ sustainability and wellbeing programmes - from movement challenges to litter-picking initiatives.
