Emily Newman’s route into financial services was never planned - but it turned out to be the perfect fit. After recovering from a life-changing illness in her teens, she joined her mother’s independent advice firm on an apprenticeship, determined to rebuild her confidence and career. Today, she’s a senior adviser, mentor and Director at Jane Newman Financial Planning, combining technical excellence with a deep commitment to empowering clients and young professionals alike.
"I was determined to prove to myself that I could overcome the challenges of the past and build a successful career."
Emily’s journey began with adversity. A gifted student with ambitions to study law, she was forced to abandon her GCSEs after contracting viral meningitis at 15 - a setback that reshaped her outlook on life. Once recovered, she chose a different path: one grounded in people, purpose, and progress.
Joining her mother’s firm as an apprentice in 2018, Emily quickly immersed herself in the world of financial planning. Within just 12 months, she completed all six RO exams through the New Model Business Academy, graduating with distinction - one of only three to do so out of 30 candidates. She went on to gain qualifications in mortgages, equity release, and discretionary investment management, and is now well on her way to achieving Chartered status.
But Emily’s success isn’t just academic. She has become an integral part of the firm’s leadership team, mentoring apprentices, guiding colleagues, and spearheading the introduction of a new back-office system that transformed efficiency and collaboration across departments. Her mix of precision and empathy has made her a trusted adviser to clients and a role model for the next generation of women in finance.
Outside her firm, Emily is a director of Worcestershire Ambassadors, a not-for-profit dedicated to community growth and charitable support. Her involvement connects financial planning with wider social impact, reflecting her belief that good advice goes beyond numbers - it changes lives.
Looking ahead, Emily is preparing for Chartered status and training for the London Marathon to raise funds for Meningitis Now, turning personal challenge into purpose once again.
